Judge Pours Salt On the Nanny Mayor Tradition
Nanny de Blasio embraces the worst of Bloomberg (NYP Ed) Doesn’t it just figure that the one part of the Bloomberg legacy Mayor de Blasio has embraced is the Big Nanny nonsense? OK, little salt shakers by high-sodium items on restaurant menus isn’t the worst imposition — but it’s still a stupid, pseudo-scientific moralizing gesture. A judge last week slapped down a restaurant group’s bid to derail the city rule that requires food chains to use the black-triangled salt-shaker symbols.* The National Restaurant Association successfully persuaded an appeals court to issue a temporarily stay on a controversial rule requiring chain restaurants in New York City to alert customers to the high-sodium food that they serve, a day before the rule was scheduled to go into effect.
de Blasio's Owes His Victory to 3% of New Yorkers, 80,000 Black Voters and 1 Sharpton
Governing to 282,344
New Yorkers
282,344 votes were cast for de Blasio in the 2013 Democratic Primary, about 3% of New Yorkers (8.500.000). de Blasio tied Bill Thompson, the only African-American in the race, overall at 42 percent of the vote. Sharpton did not back Thompson in the primary. In the general election virtually every vote cast by black New Yorkers — 96 percent — went de Blasio way. Of those we have flagged as likely Black (which would exclude Whoopi Goldberg, Spike Lee & David Dinkins), we have 178,843 Dems who voted in 2013 Primary. That is certainly too low.

Bloomberg was slammed fm both left & right for wantingcalorie counts. He was provident. Now it's fedl policy: WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration announced sweeping rules on Tuesday that will require chain restaurants, movie theaters and pizza parlors across the country to post calorie counts on their menus. Health experts said the new requirements would help combat the country’s obesityepidemic by showing Americans just how many calories lurk in their favorite foods. The rules will have broad implications for public health.
